Team Masala Movement!
Our Mission: to drive an auto-rickshaw across the sub-continent, from Goa, India to Pokhara, Nepal without losing life or limb. Along the way, we will raise money for charities working on water projects and other social justice issues. We are: 3 ladies with a passion for life and adventure; engineers; writers; activists; environmentalists. We are not: auto mechanics; frequent drivers; conversant in any Indian languages. Christina Ingoglia is a writer and former union organizer. Weeks ago she received her MFA in creative writing from the University of Wyoming, and is now sending work out to magazines. She is also starting a small eco-friendly press in San Francisco. She pretends to be as interesting as her teammates so they'll keep her on. Ashley Murray is a water and sanitation evangelist. She is a postdoc at UC Berkeley and collaborates with the International Water Management Institute in Ghana to rehabilitate and design wastewater treatment plants for reuse. She is training for the Rickshaw Run by performing routine maintenance on her bicycle.
Tracy Wise is an environmental engineer turned humanitarian aid worker. Having been expelled from Darfur, and north Sudan, in March, she is now working to help Somali refugees with access to clean water and sanitation, in Dadaab, Kenya. She spends her free time not going running, and not studying French, Swahili, or Arabic. ![]()
